BluTuesday - September 4, 2012

What’s good, people? Joseph here, and I’ve got some fresh BluRay releases for September 4, 2012. This week, we’re visiting the sappiest sinking ship story in recorded history and one of the biggest movie franchises ever.  So, with that in mind, let’s get down to the details, shall we?

Harry Potter Wizard’s Collection (BluRay /DVD/UltraViolet Digital Copy)

The magical film franchise is now available in a spectacular limited-edition collectible box set. The most comprehensive Harry Potter movie collection yet features all eight films, exclusive never-before-seen content and must-have memorabilia.

This new limited and numbered 31-disc collection contains all eight Harry Potter movies on Blu-ray, DVD and UltraViolet Digital Copy and more than 37 hours of special features including all previously released materials and more than 10 hours of new to disc bonus content, and 5 hours of never-before-seen material.

In addition to the theatrical release of every film, the collection also includes the extended versions of  Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; and the 3D versions of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows –- Parts 1 and 2.

And it can all be yours…. for $350.

Safe (R)

When a second-rate cage fighter, Luke Wright (Jason Statham), is tormented by the Russian Mafia and wanders the streets of New York, he witnesses a young Chinese girl, Mei, being pursued by the same mafia who want her for a priceless numerical code that they would kill for.

Titanic (PG-13) - 4-Disc Combo (3D/BluRay/Digital)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 88%

Okay…let’s get through this one. Released on December 19, 1997, this movie tells the story of star crossed lovers Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslett) Rose is betrothed against her will to Caledon Hockley (Billy Zane), a character so think with villainy that he may as well have appeared on camera twirling a moustache. They meet on the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, and – as the history books dictate – everything goes downhill quickly. This movie spent 41 weeks in theaters, and spent 19 weeks in the top five; with 15 of those weeks at the top spot. Just for comparison’s sake, I don’t think the other three movies on this list spent 15 weeks in theaters…TOTAL. It made over $600 million in its initial release, and it is the second-highest grossing film of all time. I’m not a big fan of the movie; I’ll go on record and say that it’s too schmaltzy and overwrought with cheese, but I can’t deny its popularity and appeal.

TV Shows:

Criminal Minds - Season 7 | Grey’s Anatomy - Season 8 | The Good Wife - Season 3 | Fringe - Season 4 |  Haven - Season 2 | Person of Interest - Season 1 | Parks and Recreation - Season 4  | The Office - Season 8 |

That’s all I got for this week. As always, if you have any questions or comments – or you want to take me to task over Titanic – hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…

  1. At first I was a bit shocked at the sticker price on the HP box set. Then I realized that fans have most likely spent that much or more on the 8 movie releases that they went to see 15 times each.

    • Pretty much. I fell into the Harry Potter craze late (was intrigued by Half-Blood Prince and saw Deathly Hallows 1 & 2 in theaters), but I did spend about $150 on the movies themselves.

That being said, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. The movies were entertaining, and I may go back and watch them again this week…just because.

  2. All of the details on the Harry Potter Wizard’s collection. I saw this last month and peed my pants a little. Want.

  3. If I had $350 lying around…I must be doing really well in my life. That, and I would definitely buy this collection.
