The Mission

Thanks to a brainwashed (brain scrubbed?) Rip, George Washington is about to be assassinated, never completing his secret attack against the British. Despite being sure it’s a trap by the LoD, Sara gives their mission assignments: Nate, Amaya, and Mick infiltrate a party Washington is attending to lead him to safety; Firestorm hangs back on the ship, and Ray goes tiny to gather intel.

Of course, nothing goes as planned. Sara is shot by Rip, Washington and Mick are taken as POWs, Nate ends up falling off a cliff into freezing waters, and Rip lets loose an EMP which makes the Waverider and Firestorm obsolete. Oh, and Ray is trapped ant-size.

Side Missions

Mick encourages, saves, and eventually bonds with Washington, earning himself a statue in his likeness in present-day Washington, D.C.

The only way to keep Nate from dying of hypothermia is body heat, which Amaya provides. Then they provide for each other… nakedly.

With Sara out of commission due to her bullet wound, Jax is in charge. He tasks Ray with traveling through the ship’s vents to restore their power. Jax has his hands full keeping Rip from obtaining their piece of the Spear. As Rip chases Jax around the ship, Jax tries to get through to him; he’s not ready to give up on Rip, even though he shot Sara. He eventually loses all hope when Rip coldly snaps Sara’s neck.

Once the power is restored, Gideon is able to revive and heal Sara, but Jax takes off after Rip, intent on killing his old captain. It takes Sara to talk him down; not because she’s interested in sparing Rip, but because she knows what it would do to Jax in the long run.

Mission Report

Didn’t see the Nate/Amaya hookup coming when they joined the cast, but damn do they have amazing chemistry. She may be new to the modern ways of dating, but that didn’t stop her from curving him so hard when she thinks he may want their one-time thing to turn into something more. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Legends of Tomorrow - S2E11 - Rip

When Rip was truly Rip, he was closest to Sara and Jax. This episode saw the unique bond he shared with each of them forever changed if not completely destroyed. Just last week on the podcast, I said Legends needs to give Jax more to do. Watching him take charge, and later have his heart broken as he watched Rip kill Sara, was exactly the type of “more to do” I had in mind. Both experiences should trigger some growth for the character.

Now, what the hell were the LoD doing while all of this was going on? Was this simply a way to get the Waverider vulnerable or will there be more to this trip to 1776?
