Empire - S1E6 - Out, Damned Spot

This week Cookie delivers cakes, Lucious thinks he’s Richard Burton, and things fall apart between Michael and Jamal.

Cookie’s Best Line: “Was I giving you body?” she asked Jamal the day after she showed the whole family her lingerie-clad assets.

Lucious B. Lyings: “The rose was a friendly reminder of where we were yesterday, that’s all,” he told both Cookie and Anika at his engagement dinner.

Number of times you wanted to slap Hakeem: Twice. He drunkenly crashed Jamal’s moment at the club, asking for help with his own song. Later he said, “I don’t hate no woman who ain’t did me wrong first,” while looking directly at Cookie.

Most triflin’ character: Rhonda. Andre called to tell her Lucious killed Bunkie, and she wouldn’t step away from a low-level meeting to support him. The man is mentally ill and she’s one of the only two people he can talk to. The other one just choked him!

Health check-up: Lucious got a leg pain just in time to see suspicious Officer Walker looking through his trash. His concierge doctor administered a drug cocktail that had only completed phase one testing in Russia. The tests showed a 60% reduction in symptoms in a small sample of people, but this is clearly skipping ahead to the most extreme option.

Who should jump the line for relationship counseling: Vernon and Andre. Vernon choked Andre based on an assumption, revealing in the process that Lucious killed Bunkie. Andre forgave him, but let Vernon know he’d slit his throat if it ever happened again.

Lee Daniels Extraness: Casting Courtney Love to play a character similar to Courtney Love (drug addict Elle Dallas).

Best minor character moment: Michael tried to love and support Jamal, who is becoming much less invested in their relationship. Honorable mention to Vernon for taking care of Lucious’ Bunkie problem.

Best cameo: Sway still didn’t have the answers when he asked whether Jamal had a special lady.

The BET award goes to: “Keep Your Money”’ by Jamal (Jussie Smollett).

Most unbelievable moment: In the final minute of the show, a woman named Olivia (Raven Symone) showed up with a child she says is Jamal’s daughter.

How did you feel about the things Cookie said about Michael? Why did Vernon exchange a briefcase full of cash in front of a criminal? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
