What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from wondering just how much crazier my schedule can get to bring you the latest releases to home media for April 17, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss a trope as old as time, the newspaper that made history, and a bunch of badass bounty hunters. Let’s get to it.
The Commuter (R)
Metascore: 56
Michael (Liam Neeson) is just trying to get home, but when he receives a mysterious phone call from a mysterious stranger (Vera Farmiga), he finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy he didn’t ask for. Working against time to solve the Rube Goldbergian puzzles strewn before him, he has to thwart this deadly plan and save the lives of everyone on the train. This film, which also stars Sam Neill, Elizabeth McGovern, and Jonathan Banks, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. Look, can we get Liam Neeson a good period piece to play in? I’m sure he’s getting tired of playing in all of these grandpa action films. Time to spruce it up a bit, kind sir.
The Post (PG-13)
Metascore: 83
Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep play legendary newspaper editor Ben Bradlee and Katharine Graham in this Steven Spielberg thriller. When other newspapers decide against publishing the infamous Pentagon Papers – papers detailing the United States’ thirty year involvement in the Vietnam War, Bradlee and Graham put their careers – and freedoms – on the line in order to expose the truth. This film, which also stars Bradley Whitford, Alison Bree, and Michael Stuhlbarg, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. The triumvirate in this film (Spielberg/Hanks/Streep) are some of the best to ever do their craft, and it’s on display here in full force. This is one you can not miss.
Killjoys: Season Three
Following the events of last season, Aneela (Hannah John-Kamen) and her army is preparing to wreak havoc on The Quad. With Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) on the run, it’s up to Dutch (John-Kamen) and D’avin (Luke Macfarlane) to unite the RAC and the rest of The Quad for a battle the likes of which they have never seen before. This series, which also stars Mayko Nguyen, Rob Stewart, and Thom Allison, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version and a two disc DVD version. Is this series groundbreaking? No. Is it culturally changing? Of course not. Is it one of the most kickass shows on TV? Absolutely. Give this show a watch.
