What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from this sweltering heat to bring you the latest releases to home media for August 8, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss the continuing struggles of the younger brother, a retelling of a legend, the return of a comedy legend, and mysterious tattoos. Let’s get this show on the road.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (PG)

Greg (Jason Drucker), the titular wimpy kid, has the brilliant idea to travel cross country to attend a gamer convention under the guise of attending his great grandmother’s 90th birthday. This idea quickly goes south and hilarity ensues. This film, which also stars Alicia Silverstone, Tom Everett Scott, and Owen Asztalos, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD + Digital Copy version. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days was supposed to be the last movie in the series, because the kids were aging out of the role. But, the love of money makes you change your mind quick. If you have kids who are a fan of the series, they’ll love this continuation of their favorite books. I can’t recommend it to anyone else, though.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (PG-13)

Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) is a vagabond, living on the streets of Camelot. Vortigen (Jude Law) is Camelot’s ruthless king, having seized the throne by killing his brother – Arthur’s dad – years prior. When Arthur happens upon the great sword Excalibur, he has to assume his birthright and become the ruler the people of Camelot need. This film, which also stars Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, and Eric Bana, is available in a two disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version. Guy Ritchie’s last foray into the past worked well with Sherlock Holmes, and that was on the strength of both Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. This doesn’t work as well, because Charlie Hunnam has the personality of a burlap sack and Jude Law looks bored. If you like the actors or the director himself, give it a shot. Otherwise, let it go.
Snatched (R)

After her boyfriend dumps her, free spirited Emily Middleton (Amy Schumer) invites her incredibly cautious mother Linda (Goldie Hawn) to go on a trip to Ecuador. When they suddenly find themselves in a world of trouble, they have to put their differences aside and work together to get back home, strengthening their bonds in the process. This film, which also stars Joan Cusack, Wanda Sykes, and Christopher Meloni, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD + Digital Copy version. Goldie Hawn is a welcome sight, having last been on the big screen in 2002. Amy Schumer…well…she exists. If you like ribald comedies, this is the one for you.
Blindspot: The Complete Second Season
Season two of the NBC drama kicks off with us finding out that Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) isn’t who we think she is. The season peels away the layers behind her missing identity and her former life, and we get closer and closer to finding out what’s really going on. This series, which also stars Sullivan Stapleton, Rob Brown, and Audrey Esparza, is available in a four disc Blu-ray version and a five disc DVD version. This series is trippy…well, it’s NBC trippy. If you like mindbending pseudo-drama, give this a watch.
