BluTuesday: September 25, 2012
Yo! Joseph here, and I’m bringing you what’s new in Blu for September 25, 2012. This week’s edition includes not one, but TWO Presidential movies and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes™. Ready to dig in? Good; let’s go!
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 97%
Released on May 7, 1993, this movie tells the story of Dave Kovic (Kevin Kline), a manager at a DC temp agency who has a side hustle impersonating President Bill Mitchell (also Kevin Kline). One day, Kovic is called by Secret Service agent Duane Stevenson (Ving Rhames) to make an appearance for the President where he is making a speech while the President boinks a staffer. Well, the President has a stroke while doing the do, forcing Kovic to keep up the ruse under the scrutiny of President Mitchell’s wife Ellen (Sigourney Weaver). This movie spent nine weeks in theaters, with six of those nine in the top five, including taking the top spot in the second week. Overall, the movie pulled in over $63 million, and it is a delightful film to watch.
The American President (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 90%
When this film came out on November 17, 1995, it came out with a giant cast and was touched by the hand of Sorkin. Michael Douglas (pay attention; you’ll hear that name again later) plays President Andrew Shepherd, a relatively popular president from Wisconsin. The President – who is a widower – begins to fall for a lobbyist named Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Benning)…and the feeling is mutual. The movie deals with the two in their budding romance while dealing with DC politics. The film spent eight weeks in theaters, with its highest point in the top five being the #3 ranking it picked up in the first week. The budget on this film was $62 million, and it ended up bringing in slightly under that domestically with a total of about $60 million. That being said, it is a nice romantic drama that tugs at the heartstrings. It’s certainly worth giving it a look-see if you’ve never seen it.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 92%
This is my pick of the week. Go buy this movie. Today. Now.

I had to brave the unwashed masses at Satan’s Armpit (my nom de plume for Wal-Mart), but I got it this morning.
*hating because I don’t have Amazon Prime*
