Carla Gugino Will Have a Helluva Time Playing ‘Gerald’s Game’

Yesterday, principal photography began for Mike Flanagan’s (Ouija: Origin of Evil, Hush, Oculus) next project Gerald’s Game, adapted from one of Stephen King’s lesser known yet equally terrifying novels. A thoroughly macabre suspense novel only King can deliver, Gerald’s Game will certainly be unlike any of the prolific author’s adaptations seen in film or television in the last 30 years. In other words, this is the exact material the film’s distributor Netflix covets.

The recently announced lead poor soul who will suffer the misfortunes of this tale is Carla Gugino (The Space Between Us, San Andreas, Watchmen, Wayward Pines). Never one to shy away from more demanding roles, Gugino will endure a lion’s share of psychological torture as Jessie.

As stated in the press release:

Gerald’s Game follows Gerald and Jessie Burlingame, who have gone to their summer home on a warm weekday in October for a romantic interlude. After being handcuffed to her bedposts, Jessie tires of her husband’s games, until things take an unexpectedly tragic turn. Still handcuffed, she is trapped and alone. Painful memories from her childhood bedevil her. Her only company is a hungry stray dog and the voices that populate her mind. As night comes, she is unsure whether it is her imagination or if she has another companion: someone watching her from the corner of her dark bedroom.

Also starring in Gerald’s Game is Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek into Darkness, Star Trek), Henry Thomas (Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gangs of New York), Carel Struycken (Men in Black, “Twin Peaks”), Kate Siegel (Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Oculus) and Chiara Aurelia (“Agent Carter,” Big Sky, “Pretty Little Liars”).

Gerald’s Game is co-written by Flanagan and Jeff Howard, and produced by Trevor Macy for Intrepid Pictures.
