It had been so long since we checked in with The Will that I’d forgotten when last we met. This entire issue is dedicated to catching up, and we’re all better for it. Chapter Forty-Seven is another example of Saga at its best, filled with Vaughan’s laugh-out-loud dialogue and Staples’ panels that guarantee you’ll spend considerable time on every page.

The Will is currently being held and tortured by Ianthe, a grieving diplomat who routinely spies on the war for her home world and reports back which side they should support. She’s up in her feelings because The Will (back when he was still The Will) killed her fiancee. To make matters extremely awkward and painful, he doesn’t even remember doing it. Thankfully, she refreshes his (and our) memory and reveals Hektor was killed when The Will rescued Sophie on Sextillion. 

Ianthe isn’t satisfied with killing The Will’s dog (R.I.P., Sweet Boy), she wants to kill someone whose loss will leave him broken. As she scours his memories looking for such a person, we granted glimpses into The Will’s most private moments: his uncle (his mother’s brother) was also a bounty hunter and literally little Billy’s hero as he saved him from an abusive stepfather; the first time he and The Stalk looked at each other as more than just colleagues; and the time when he probably first developed feelings for Gwendolyn.

Unfortunately, this memory also includes a conversation about Hazel, and Ianthe now hopes to make a lot of money locating the offspring of two warring species.

Oh, Billy.
