The Oleg Story
Can you handle the harsh realities of prison? That’s what you must ask yourself when you sit down for a game of The Oleg Story. Set in a high-security, secret prison, and home to the worst criminals society has ever seen, the goal of The Oleg Story is simple: survive.
Players control four miniature characters who are a part of a gang. The prison has six major gangs, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. You can also choose to be an NGM, non-gang member. NGMs are led by Oleg, the story’s anti-hero sentenced to two life terms for murders he claims he didn’t commit.
The team behind The Oleg Story, Latest Pursuit, a gaming company based out of London, have recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the international release of the board game. There are some pretty cool pledge levels that include perks like multiple copies of the game, a Survival Story DVD, and a character in the game modeled after you. Yes, you. You’re going to prison.
As an avid tabletop player, there are three things I look for when deciding to purchase a game: the story, the gameplay, the look.
Interesting stories and settings are hard to come by. If you’ve purchased enough games, it starts to feel like you’ve seen it all before. The prison setting, for me, is intriguing. I like to feel like the stakes are high and really become immersed in the game’s world. From an early look at TOS’ layout, that doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a problem. I suspect it will feel just like being in Oz, but without the rape and shanking.
Repeat play is huge. Can you play the game multiple times and feel like the experience is unique? With hundreds of attack, defense, mission, and other gameplay cards, you can cater each game how you want. Do you form an uneasy alliance only to betray it later or play aggressive and ruthless with no allies? Even though some of the artwork may change, what is previewed on the Kickstarter page and the scope of what’s included in the game box, The Oleg Story looks like a detailed and multi-layered game.
I can’t wait to go to prison!

This game looks like a lot of fun. I love the look and the fact that it is set in a prison setting. I looked at the kickstarter campaign and saw only 6 backers. I could not find a place to “share” the campaign on facebook, but I will share this when I do. I hope that they reach the goal.
It does look like fun. I can’t wait to play it. I really hope they hit their goal, too. Tabletop gaming is something that should never go away. I’m gonna go broke supporting my board game habit.
The board games I can afford. It is the beer and food that goes into game night that breaks our wallet. We get a game out and you would think that we were stocking up in case of an emergency. I don’t know what it is about board games that our family feels unable to play without a shit ton of food/drinks 😉 We play electronic games more than tabletop games, but we try to fit in “non electronic game night” a few times a month with our kiddos.
