Twin Peaks: The Return - Part 4

Teach Me How to Dougie
Much to the annoyance of the casino, Dale Cooper (in Dougie’s life) keeps hitting it big at the slot machines. After he runs into a co-worker, his limited vocabulary grows to include his home address. The casino shuffles him off with his winnings in a limo. At home, Dougie’s wife (Naomi Watts) is pissed that he hasn’t been home for three days, but her mood improves when she sees the bag of cash he won. She even makes him breakfast the next morning and Dale Cooper has his first taste of coffee in 25 years. Too bad he didn’t let it cool off first.
Teach Me How to Cooper
BobCopper isn’t very good at being Cooper to people who actually know the real Dale Cooper.
After a stop to see Denise (David Duchovny), who is now the Chief of Staff of the FBI, Director Cole arrives in South Dakota to question “Agent Cooper.” He has to do so from another room since everyone who has come into contact with BobCopper and the substance in his car has gotten ill.
BobCooper says he’s been undercover for the past 25 years and he was on his way to Virginia to turn in his report when he got into the car accident. He seems very intent on speaking with Cole alone to be “debriefed.” Cole says he’ll get right on that, but instead presses Agent Rosenfeld on his thoughts on Cooper’s story. Rosenfeld confesses to passing along to information to Cooper that got a man killed. They agree that someone in particular should look at Cooper.
They’re headed to…
Twin Peaks
I found out after watching this episode that Michael Ontkean turned down the offer to reprise his role as Sheriff Harry Truman, but Lucy definitely referred to two Sheriff Trumans in the premiere. The answer is Sheriff Frank Truman (Robert Forster), the first Sheriff Harry Truman’s brother. He’s on the job while his brother fights an illness that sounds fatal. We learn this when Andy and Lucy’s son, Wally Brando (Michael Cera), arrives in town to pay his respect.
The two biggest shocks of the episode came from finding out that Bobby (Dana Ashbrook) is now a Deputy and then watching him sob when he sees Laura’s portrait on the evidence table. This should have been cringeworthy (especially because the theme music piped in right at that moment), but it was actually a bit heartbreaking.
Pathetic Predictions
At first I wondered if they were going to get Laura’s mother, Sarah (Grace Zabriskie), to look at BobCooper to see if she can see his inner Bob, but Rosenfeld said he knows where the person drinks right before we go to the bar where we saw Shelly and James a few episodes ago. I have a hard time believing that woman ever leaves the house. So now I’m wondering if the person is Audrey.
3 Questions
The One-Armed Man appeared before Dale Cooper, holds up a stone, and says he was tricked. Did BobCooper set something up so that the Dougie/Cooper switch wouldn’t take hold right away? Undoing that might be what gets Cooper’s memories back.
How are we in two-thousand and seventeen, the year of our Lord and Savior Beyonce, and Lucy doesn’t understand how cell phones work?
Why do people keep putting Michael Cera in things?
