Geek Item of the Week: Back to School
It’s back to school time. Or so I hear. I don’t have kids and it’s been many presidential elections since I’ve been school aged. Though I recall not starting school until well into September, I’ve been seeing folders and notebooks for sale at Walmart, so I’m assuming that time has come around again. Now, you (or your kid) can show up for the first day of class with the same old stuff as everybody else (boooooor-ing) or you can spice things up a bit with my geek list of back to school items (awwwwwe-some).
First you’ll need an owl, a cat, or a toad…. I’m sorry. Wrong list. I meant;
TMNT Backpack
It’s gnarly and totally radical! I’d be your friend! It’s shell shaped, has lots of space for books and whatnots, and even comes with ninja masks. It’s available at ThinkGeek for $44.99.
Harry Potter Wand Pencil
A Harry Potter wand pencil. Need I say any more? I don’t think so. It’s a handmade etsy item, available in an assortment of colors. I’m considering buying one for myself.
Pencil Case
If you’re going to have the wand pencil, you have to have the Marauder’s Map pencil case. It’s $70, so probably you don’t actually want it. But it is handmade leather and made to order so the price is not surprising. Were I a rich woman, that pencil case would be mine.
Notepads
At Skullastic you can create your own notebook from a variety of styles and colors. It’s kind of cool. Though these are $5 a notebook and since kids are ingrates and you can buy a regular notebook for like 20 cents, you might want to go with that instead.
Snazzy Tee
Everyone needs at least one new shirt when they go back to school. Or when they go to drop the kids off at school. ThinkGeek, $19.99. I’m wearing this shirt right now. There’s a kid’s option as well, also at ThinkGeek for $12.99.
Avengers Shoes
Along with a new shirt, new shoes are always joyous to have when going back to school. Or again, when you have to drop the kids off at school. My current choice of shoe would be Avengers! These shoes are available at the Converse website in a variety of sizes so that everybody can have happy super hero feet.
