New Promo Frames Gotham as a World Sitting on a “Ticking Bomb”

The decaying cityscape of Gotham and its corrupt system could really use a hero; the Dark Knight may be the one they need, but he’s not here, so they’ll have to make do with Commissioner-to-be James Gordon. In this new promo, Gordon seems to show us he’s up to the challenge.

Set to a background tune of Aloe Blacc’s “Ticking Bomb”, the promo follows James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) through a wash of red police lights and into a fresh crime scene. While even Adam West’s ’66 Batman would tell you “Some days you just can’t get rid of a bomb”, McKenzie’s Gordon grounds the promo with a steady voiceover that reassures everyone that he’s here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and he’s all out of bubblegum.

The trailer also gives us another look at some of the series’ villains-before-they-were-villains in Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), and Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith); as well as the series-original creation Fish Mooney (Jade Pinkett-Smith).

Gotham premieres September 22, 2014 on Fox, and we can’t wait.

John is currently untitled. This complete lack of definition would drive most into abject bitterness and utter despair, but not someone of John’s virility. No, John is the picture of mental stability and emotional platitude.
