For me, the best superhero comic book stories are those that are well-rooted in reality. Jennifer Walters can Hulk-out and smash her way through all of her problems, except one: dealing with the death of Bruce Banner.

She does a good job of distracting herself by working on Miss Brewn’s unlawful eviction case. This includes a skin-crawling meeting with Brewn’s misogynistic landlord, Mr. Tick. As creepy misogynist pricks typically do, he refuses to be reasonable.

The job she loves can only do but so much and it’s not long before a peaceful moment in the park sends Jennifer rushing to the confines of her office. Little kids in the park playing superhero depicted The Hulk as a murderous menace and the only one who can stop him is Hawkeye. She spends the entire day in the dark, trying to keep her emotions - and rage - in check. Thankfully, her new assistant has experience in managing grief. Unfortunately, while Jennifer was unavailable, Miss Brewn got the reassurance she needed from the creepy thing hiding in the shadows of her apartment.

But Jennifer’s day is nothing compared to Mr. Tick’s, who ends up a bloody mass embedded in the sidewalk by an unseen assailant. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
