Ms. Marvel Wins “Best Series”

NOUVELLES FANTASTIQUE, TOUT LE MONDE! MS. MARVEL WINS “BEST SERIES” AT ANGOULÊME

In a historic turn of events during the 2016 Angoulême International Comics Festival, Marvel Comics - in particular writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona - were recognized for their efforts in creating breakout heroine Kamala Khan, who has spearheaded the path to greater representation in mainstream comics. This past weekend Ms. Marvel vol. 1: No Normal was awarded “Best Series” by Angoulême voters.

Marvel Comics was the sole American publisher that was nominated in any category within the international comic book community. To make such an achievement even more profound, Ms. Marvel was the first Marvel series to ever receive the prestigious honor of “Best Series”. Such an accomplishment attests to both Wilson’s engaging writing and the desire by fans and creators alike for more diverse characters like Kamala.

“The whole Ms. Marvel team is honored to accept the Angouleme prize for best series.” G. Willow Wilson remarked. “Working on this book and connecting with readers and fans has been a unique joy for all of us. At a time when it sometimes seems the world is in a state of constant conflict, it is a privilege to work on a series that unites us through adventure, humor and a celebration of our common humanity. Thank you to everyone who believes in Kamala Khan, and thank you to Angouleme.”

Readers can catch up with Kamala’s post-Secret Wars adventures on Comixology. Be sure to also check out Project Fandom’s reviews on the young hero. Issue four - written by Wilson with art by Nico Leon - will be available in print and digital February 10.
