New to Netflix: Disney Edition

Hey, everybody. Joseph here, and I’m coming with some breaking news. As per the Los Angeles Times, Netflix has bought exclusive rights to all of the movies from Walt Disney Studios effective 2016. Currently, Disney is under contract with Starz – which had a streaming deal with Netflix that ended in February 2012. But, once that contract ends, the movies come back to Netflix for your streaming pleasure.

That’s right: ALL. THE. MOVIES.

And, if that were all you were getting, that would certainly be enough, because that’s a sweet deal. But, there’s more: they’ve also released the classics for streaming right about…NOW. In case you haven’t noticed, this is a big deal for movie fans everywhere. Disney has been on a tear as of late, gobbling up everything under the sun, and this deal means that everything they’ve purchased will be available on Netflix in a few years.

But, that’s then, and this is now. So, what’s available now? A quick perusal of the Netflix site has brought forth some oldies but goodies for us to poke through. This is by no means an expansive list, but it does include the following movies:

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • The Rescuers Down Under
  • Pocahontas
  • Dumbo
  • The Great Mouse Detective
  • The Aristocats
  • James and the Giant Peach

There are more movies coming by the minute, and when I get a more expansive list, I’ll pass it on to you.
Until next time…

  1. Oh this makes me so incredibly happy. Now the girls can watch all.the.movies. Without that pesky waiting for the DVD to show up 🙂 I can send back Aristocats and get something momma wants now!

  2. The Great Mouse Detective!

  3. This is only the beginning. We’re gonna get all of the Marvel stuff, as well as the Pirates of the Caribbean series, possibly the LucasFilm stuff, and so much more.

This is a brilliant business decision, and it’ll totally be worth the wait.

  4. Now maybe I can talk my Mom into throwing out that box of Disney VHS tapes in the garage.
