Remembering Meghan - Donate to Cradles to Crayons

A few days ago, Amazon sent me a two-week birthday remember for Meghan, a dear friend who was a major part of creating Project Fandom, and who passed away in October 2014. Like anything that pops up with her name on it, it was like a kick in the gut. When I was done crying about it, I knew she wouldn’t want her birthday to bring sadness to those she loved.

Meghan’s roommate and good friend, Kim, suggested we find a way to honor her birthday by helping children. As Meghan dedicated her life to the care and education of children, it felt like an appropriate way to celebrate the day she was born.

Fellow Project Fandom team member, Teri, graciously volunteered to research a local charity and organize a fundraiser. I was so pleased with her selection: Cradles to Crayons.

Cradles to Crayons is dedicated to providing homeless children and children from low-income homes with the essentials they need: clothes, shoes, books, and school supplies. They’ve received hundreds of positive reviews from other groups who’ve worked with them, the donations stay local (Meghan loved her adopted city of Boston so much) and are used to provide for the children directly.

Teri set up a GoFundMe page here.

If you were lucky enough to know Meghan, consider making a donation in her honor. All funds raised via this campaign will go directly to Cradles to Crayons.
