Silk #4

It’s been a minute since I’ve enjoyed an issue of Silk this much. The mysterious savior returns, Silk does battle with the Goblin Nation beneath the sewers and learns of their plans, we get a bit more information on what happened to the missing teens, and we got a lovely flashback to one of Cindy’s last moments with her dad before going into the bunker.

Also, I experienced one of the my favorite moments when reading a comic book: Something happens that’s so good you’re sure it must be the end, but then you turn the page and find there’s more.

Killer Shrike has set Silk up for failure and left her to die at the hands of the Goblin Nation. Fortunately for Silk, the mystery person who saved her back in issue #1 returns and helps her escape, but then sacrifices himself/herself in order for Silk to get away.

Metal Face

I was a little surprised that Silk actually left. When she says to herself she can’t leave without answers, I assumed she would go back to help. Since she eventually got gripped up while seeking her answers, I’m choosing to believe she wasn’t going to abandon the poor guy or girl.

Speaking of abandonment, her co-workers are feeling stood up as Cindy doesn’t show at the bar. Cindy manages to text them a name she needs researched, someone she remembered her father saying would be working with Cindy’s mother on a cure.

After Cindy finds files on the teen Goblin soldiers, she learns her brother was on his own, living on the streets, for two years before they recruited him. This stirs up more questions, like where the hell were her parents for those two years?

Saved by Metal Face

The Goblin King interrupts her fact-finding mission and surprisingly offers her a tour and full explanation for what’s going down in the sewers. In his own demented way, he believes he’s giving the kids purpose and building a family - a family he would like Silk to join. Of course, she passes, and it seems her refusal may end up being very bad for her health.

Summary

There’s so much going on and I like all of it.

Will Black Cat believe Shrike’s lies about Silk running away in fear? Will Mockingbird go looking for Silk since she’s not answering her calls? Whose the mystery hero? What will Cindy’s co-workers find when they look into the name she sent them? Between the dire straits Silk was left in and all of those questions, I can’t wait for the next issue!

Congrats to Silk artist, Veronica Fish. She will be the artist on the new Archie series from Archie Comics.
