The Flash - S4E12 - Honey, I Shrunk Team Flash

Previously on The Flash, “The Elongated Knight Rises”

Finally, a fairly enjoyable episode of The Flash. I feel it’s been forever since we’ve had one. At least they acknowledged, in universe, that at this point we’re just killing time.

A meta, Slybert Rundin/Dwarfstar (Derek Mears), with the ability to shrink and “embiggen” objects and people puts the whammy on Cisco and Ralph after they try to question him about a recent heist. He also happens to be the man responsible for the murder which landed Big Sir (Bill Goldberg) in prison. Barry assures his new prison bestie his friends will get a confession out of Rundin and secure Big Sir’s freedom, and despite warning Barry against peddling false hope, Big Sir begins to believe it actually might happen. Unfortunately, after Rundin is outsmarted and Ralph and Cisco cured, the meta refuses to go on the record with his confession. Barry’s guilt drives him to use his power to take Big Sir to a small village in China he always dreamed of visiting. In doing so, he’s caught on a hidden camera the warden installed and outed as The Flash. As since there’s no such thing as a coincidence when it comes to Barry’s life lately, he finds himself deposited into the meta-human wing of Iron Hearts, alongside all of the bus metas he helped put there.

Up to Speed

The side plot of Cecile being a temporary telepath was a silly, but much needed distraction from the staler story of Harry’s frustration at not being able to free Barry or cure Cisco and Ralph. And even though it was a tad frustrating to watch her not get how annoying it was for her to read everyone’s mind, Danielle Nicolet‘s portrayal was adorable and she really sold it. It’s always nice when someone gets powers and they actually get a kick out of it.

Also silly but enjoyable? Barry interacting with yet another person he apprehended as The Flash. This week, he plays cards with former Mayor Bellows (Vito D’Ambrosio).

Speed Bumps

We’ve officially reached the portion of the season where we wonder what the fuck the big bad is waiting for even though the real answer is: they gotta make this last 23-24 episodes.

But Wait; There’s More

We all thought Warden Wolfe (Richard Brooks) was shady, and he confirms it by placing a call to Amunet (Katee Sackhoff). He wants to make a deal for The Flash.

What did you think of this week’s episode? Leave your brief thoughts below or on our Facebook post for this review, and we’ll read them on the podcast tonight.

    Hey Nina, Donnie, and John!!
This week was an improvement due to the overall comedy only … the plot was shit, but it happened and we watched it.
I feel like show runners we’re taking notes from Black Lightning just for pulling that wonderful shade on Grandma Ester’s nasty-ass noodles. Only episode highlight was Cecile, her new powers, and that poor couples therapist lol I love this running gag. The rest was forgettable…
Random question, Donnie how would you feel if Nina could read your mind (not that she can’t already)? Keep up the great podcast & I already have my black-ass notes for Black Lightning tomorrow lol my gawd that show ❤️❤️
Sorry if this is too long Nina, but you’re likely just reading feedback for this trash-ass episode anyway lol.

  2. For the Podcast

Surprisingly I kinda enjoyed this episode. It was funny and a lot of characters got a chance to shine. Ralph didn’t even annoy me as much. And I especially loved Iris stepping on him.

Barry cheating at cards was hilarious plus the scene where Cisco kept thinking about Pokémon.

I’m not feeling the characterization of Cecile tho. She’s a grown ass woman but they can’t seem to write her correctly. Smh.

Can’t wait for next week. That sucker ended on a very good cliffhanger. Can’t wait to hear the podcast!

  3. For the podcast

Hey guys. So.. I actually enjoyed this episode..
It was pretty funny kinda dumb but still..
Kaitlin didn’t annoy me but.. Now she’s also an obstetrician huh.. Mmkay writers..
    Loved Iris as always
Finally Barry saying what we been knew that Iris is way out of his league 😂
Cecil being way too excited abt having powers was unnecessary
I wanted to see the “mystery girl” this episode too but..
    That’s it.
    Thanks for the podcast

  4. Hey Nina, John and Donald,

    Fuckin’ Barry!
I can not, with this episode.

All I can say is the following:
    -Cisco’s hair is luxurious.
    -Wells is annoying me
-Why are Cecille’s eyes blood shot?
-Why is this show like this?
-Do we really give a shit about Amunette?

The podcast is everything, though. Ya’ll are making me laugh out loud, every episode. Love you all. Oh, and can’t wait to finally leave feedback for Black-ass Lightening.

  5. Hi Nina, John and Donnie. First of all, thank you Nina for every time you read my feedback. I like to talk, i can’t help it so i appreciate it when you actually read it all. As for the episode, what can I say, where are we going? I can’t even with this writers.
Cecile is adorable and I love seeing her and Joe on screen. Their relationship feels genuine. I enjoyed the little scene between her and Iris. More women interactions that don’t need #feminism to justify it is always appreciated.
Anyways, Iris needs to divorce Barry’s captain save a ho ass pronto and find herself another man to worship the ground she walks on. He can stay in jail since its so fun and he finds it easy to spirit away burly white guy I don’t give a shit about instead of trying to get out.
His ass deserved that shit that happened to him at the end.

  6. Hey Nina, Donny. And John!
I didn’t even bother leaving feedback last week but I did enjoy y’all talk about yourselves. I actually got my mom a nutribullet and she’s also been buying all kinds of fruit to blend.
Anyways, this episode was much more enjoyable than last week until you realize you signed up for a The Flash show and barely get any of him… I’d be okay with all these fillers if they were actually good and not just irrelevant with a tacked on plot point in the end.
    Thanks you guys!

  7. For The Podcast:

I’ll keep it short because yall have got yoga to do.
    - This Joe and Cecile stuff is nice, but they haven’t got as much sexual chemistry as Jefferson and Alfred on Black Lightning.
    - Barry giving his prison daddy a trip to China was cool. I guess Big Sir must have put it down pretty good to get that one way ticket.
    - I’m just going to assume that the Devoes have been taking advantage of that new body and getting their sexy time on instead of furthering the plot.
    - I love how the Mayor was like “Even if crime is bad, it’s still second to Star City” which I took to mean “Even if The Flash is a bad show, it’s still better than Arrow.”
