Zack Snyder Confirmed as Director for Justice League Film

It should come as no real surprise that Warner Bros. is working on a Justice League film, especially if you’ll recall the report last April that basically said as much. Also in that report was the revelation that, if Man of Steel was a success, its director Zack Snyder would be the one offered a chance to direct said Justice League film. Well, the inevitable came to pass, and Man of Steel was a great success. The only change, really, was the fact that we didn’t go directly from Man of Steel to Justice League and, instead, have a stopover in “Batman vs. Superman” territory to look forward to first. What I’m basically saying is: this isn’t anything unexpected, but it’s still an awesome confirmation.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting the confirmation, and it comes directly from Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman. The juicy details are as follows: Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot are set to reprise their roles as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, respectively; of course, the latter two have yet to play their roles for a first time and will do so in Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel sequel that still has no concrete name, so we’ll have to reserve absolute judgement on whether or not their return in a Justice League film is a good or bad thing until we actually see them (I’m confident they’ll be great). As an aside: you know, everyone keeps reporting on the Man of Steel sequel as not having a finalized name yet, but everyone involved seems to always refer to it as Batman vs. Superman. I’m afraid we’re all getting closer and closer to the inevitable moment when we’ll have to give up our wishful thinking and accept that Batman vs. Superman may actually be the name they’re going with.

Anyway, Ray Fisher, the stage actor who was recently cast in a cameo role for the Man of Steel sequel as Cyborg, is also expected to continue his role in Justice League. That fact, and a fair amount of common sense, would seem to indicate the film will presumably more closely resemble DC’s New 52 Justice League-instead of, say, the one that was established and recognizable to millions of people my age. I digress; this means the roster will likely be fleshed out with the likes of Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Aquaman, and the Flash (Barry Allen). Two things: 1. I’m a huge fan of Green Lantern and actually think Ryan Reynolds was okay in the role of Hal Jordan (although I prefer John Stewart), but the actor will probably not be brought back 2. This roster noticeably would not include another character I love: Martian Manhunter, who could so awesomely be played by Benedict Cumberbatch, but okay then.

If the roster does come down to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Flash, that means there are three more huge roles that would need to be filled. Let the fancasting begin!

John is currently untitled. This complete lack of definition would drive most into abject bitterness and utter despair, but not someone of John’s virility. No, John is the picture of mental stability and emotional platitude.
