BluTuesday – August 14, 2018

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from prep for my next play to bring you the latest releases to home media for August 14, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss the snap heard ‘round the universe, David Tennant, the hero who failed his city, and the hero’s journey to the dark side. Let’s get to it.

Avengers: Infinity War (PG-13)
Metascore: 68

After years of cosplaying as Orcus sitting on his throne, Thanos (Josh Brolin) comes to claim the Infinity Stones for himself to form the powerful Infinity Gauntlet. His goal? To wipe out half of sentient life in the universe. The only people who stand in his way are what’s left of the New Avengers, led by Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), the Secret Avengers, led by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), the nation of Wakanda, led by T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), the Guardians of the Galaxy, “led” by Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and the Allfather, Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth). This film, which also stars Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, and Don Cheadle, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a single disc DVD + Digital HD version, and probably several other versions I’m unaware of it being released in at deadline. This was the biggest movie of the year, shattering box office records left and right, and leaving fans both emotionally exhausted and hungry for more. This was a film a decade in the making, and I highly recommend it.

Bad Samaritan (R)
Metascore: 46

Sean Falco (Robert Sheehan) is a restaurant valet moonlighting as a house burglar, stealing from the rich and giving to himself. However, when he stumbles upon a young woman named Katie Hopgood (Kerry Condon) who is being held kidnapped, he faces the wrath of Cale Erendeich (David Tennant), a sadistic murderer. This film, which also stars Carlito Olivero, Jacqueline Byers, and Tracey Heggins, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. David Tennant plays terrifying really well, and it’s worth watching if that’s the only thing you’re looking for.

Arrow: The Complete Sixth Season

Picking up after the explosive events of last season, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) has added a new ball to the ones he’s juggling as both the Green Arrow and the mayor of Star City: fatherhood. But, when Cayden James (Michael Emerson) and Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) reign terror on the city and Team Arrow becomes frayed at the seams, Oliver has to do his best to keep his city and his team together. This series, which also stars David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, and Paul Blackthorne, is available in a four disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a five disc DVD version. After the phenomenal fifth season, this series had a tough hill to climb this season; it didn’t hit all those marks, but it did a serviceable job.

The Blacklist: The Complete Fifth Season

“Red” Reddington (James Spader) is on his way to reclaiming his moniker as the “Concierge of Crime” as he works to rebuild his empire. He hopes to eventually have his daughter Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) by his side. Torn between her duties as an FBI agent and working with her father, she has to decide which world she wants to be a part of. This series, which also stars Diego Klattenhoff, Ryan Eggold, and Amir Arison, is available in a five disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a five disc DVD version. This show is still going strong and not showing any signs of slowing down. Give it a watch.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
