BluTuesday – August 21, 2018

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from trying to survive the return to school to bring you the latest releases to home media for August 21, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss the Merc with the Mouth, losing faith, and a whole bunch of TV. Let’s get to it.

Deadpool 2: Super Duper $@%!#& Cut (NR) – NOTE: The theatrical release was rated R
Metascore: 66

In the sequel to the runaway hit, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) tasks himself to protect young Russell Collins (Julian Dennison) from time-traveling psychopath Cable (Josh Brolin). Along the way, he runs into fellow mercenary Domino (Zazie Beetz) and – along with several other mutants – form the X-Force in order to keep Russell alive. This film, which also stars Brianna Hildebrand,  Stefan Kapičić, and Jack Kesy, is available in a four disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. This was a fun movie, full of laughs and and action, and I highly recommend it.

First Reformed (R)
Metascore: 85

Ethan Hawke plays Reverend Ernst Toller, a middle-aged pastor at a struggling church. When Mary (Amanda Seyfried), a pregnant parishioner, asks him to counsel her husband, Toller has to come face-to-face with his own demons and fears in order to find his own redemption. This film, which also stars Cedric Kyles, Victoria Hill, and Phillip Ettinger, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This is an interesting look at faith and the ways it can falter. It’s a deep and serious movie that’s worth giving a watch.

Ash vs Evil Dead: The Complete Third Season

Ash (Bruce Campbell) returns to his hometown as a conquering hero, but he also finds out he has a teenage daughter named Brandy (Arielle Carver-O’Neill). However, the family reunion comes to a crashing halt when Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) discovers a massacre with the signature of a very dangerous foe: former friend Ruby (Lucy Lawless). This series, which also stars Ray Santiago, Lindsay Farris, and Emilia Burns, is available in a two disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a two disc DVD version. This is the swan song of a cult classic, and as such, shouldn’t be missed.

Other titles coming to home media this week feature:

Blindspot: The Complete Third Season
Gotham: The Complete Fourth Season
The Walking Dead: The Complete Eighth Season

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
