Gotham - S3E22 - Heroes Rise: Heavydirtysoul
Previously on Gotham, “Destiny Calling”
Bruce comes too his senses after killing Alfred. Ra’s tells Bruce that it is foretold he would be his “knight in the darkness.” Nice. Anyway, Ra’s says their time will come and he disappears right before he tells him to use the water to save Alfred. And from a scene right out of “The Last Crusade,” Alfred is healed… kinda. Seems like the Lazarus Pit water just brought him back, but the doctors still need to operate on him. Selina comes by to see how he is doing and Bruce and Selina do what they do; they fight and Selina leaves.
Lee calls Gordon to see if he misses her. She misses him and she wants to run away with him with nothing between them but sweet, sweet love. But until her train leaves town, Gordon can focus on catching Nygma and Barbara. He calls Nygma with a proposition. Nygma listens and takes Tetch to exchange for Penguin.
Barbara is not happy and she is taking her frustrations out on Butch and Tabitha. Not the best idea considering both of them are having their own trust issues. We have three different parties with very different aims in mind. And everyone has guns and grenades! Needless to say, everyone gets what they want. Well, Penguin got Nygma, so that was kind of what one of them wanted. Barbara, Butch, and Tabitha got Tetch, minus a couple of pints of blood. And Gordon and Bullock got a mason jar full of the blood, which is what they need to make an antidote. All is well with the world.
Thompkins is waiting for Jimbo and he shows up with one dose of the antidote to use on her. But Lee wants the Sith side of Gordon and tells him so with her tongue! Mr. and Mrs. Gordon are about to leave town, but Bullock stops them and reminds Gordon who he is: a GCPD police detective. And he passes him two doses of the antidote. Gordon, of course, uses the antidote on Lee and himself and they sleep peacefully on a train full of people who did not see anything that just went down.
Bodies were dropping all over Gotham in this finale. We have Nygma, Butch, and Barbara pushing up daisies. Nygma outsmarts Penguin and brings him back to where last season ended on the pier, but Penguin puts Nygma on ice instead. Barbara shoots Butch because he and Tabitha were going to kill her first. Then we have Barbara getting electrocuted when Tabitha can’t forgive her for killing Butch. Wow! I like some, but not all, of those character arcs. Good thing this is Game of Thrones on steroids, so not everyone stays dead.
Most Ridiculous/Funny Scene: “Where is Ed?” Barbara asks right before she realizes Nygma took Tetch to Gordon.
Honorable Mention: Gordon wants to give Nygma to Penguin, or at least use him as bait to get Strange. Bullock says they do not have the authority to broker a deal with Nygma. Since when has that ever stopped anyone on this show from breaking the law or letting people out of jail? Gordon just did it last episode!
Worst Scene: Any of the Nygma and Penguin scenes. They talk too much. Like way too much. It is just getting old.
Best Surprise: Butch is dead! That actually sucks. He was a positive on the show.
Best Line: “Uh, sweetie, you may want to use your inside voice next time you want to growl and make secret calls about secret meetings,” Barbara says to Gordon as they are all meeting in the secret warehouse.
Geek Out Moment: Selina cracking the whip! And Penguin’s new logo! And Solomon Grundy, y’all!!!
Well that is all folks! Not bad; not bad at all. I was surprised with the body count, but some of those bodies really aren’t dead. It looks like Barbara’s death might be permanent, which I am sad about. She was over the top in the finale, but I still liked her. It turns out Butch, who is in a coma after being shot in the head, is really Cyrus Gold, who in the comics is Solomon Grundy the zombie super villain! That is cool! We get Selina and Tabitha teaming up and getting out of Gotham. Who knew Selina was such a natural with a whip? We did! And Lee leaves town because she has to be on the virus to stand loving Gordon. I think we all get that. And the show ends with Gordon and Bullock doing the buddy cop thing and Bruce being Jr. Batman! Too early? I think so, but hey, we will find out next season.
