Superman’s Fortress of Solitude made an appearance this week, if for no other reason than to reiterate the episode’s theme: loneliness. Going it alone can lead to many problems (reinforcing what we learned way back in Stronger Together), but it isn’t always a choice. Sometimes we’re forced to be alone, like what happens if, say, your spouse catches you using an infidelity website.

James used the motivations behind the hack to persuade Kara into allowing him to reveal her secret to Lucy, since it is now harming his relationship with her. He thinks that telling Lucy the truth will be a way to assuage her suspicions around him and Supergirl. He might have been right had he not waited so long, because at this point Lucy has pieced together an even more unsettling truth: James is clearly in love with Kara.

Secrets, secrets are no fun. Secrets, secrets hurt someone.

Decisions

Kara had a big decision to make after her falling out with Hank. Having sworn off help from the DEO, when this week’s villain of the week materializes on the monitors in CatCo she tries to take her on herself.

The villain is Indigo, or Brainiac 8. Turns out she was a prisoner in Fort Rozz, too. Unlike most of them so far, however, she has a connection to the overall story. Indigo was the one responsible for knocking Kara’s pod off course as a way to pull Fort Rozz out of the Phantom Zone. She also seems to be even harder than Non when it comes to life on Earth, and was waiting until Astra was gone to make her move.

Using the Diamond Discretions hack as a way to tease out the identity of a powerful military figure, Indigo gets her hands on the nuclear code and shoots one off toward National City. That’s when Supergirl realizes maybe she’s in over her head, and calls on the DEO for help.

It was odd that when Kara flew James to the Fortress of Solitude, he tells her that she’s way faster than Superman, but then later seems to have a hard time keeping up with the missile. If that was on purpose, I suppose it’s a way to show how close National City came to disaster—because even Superman wouldn’t have been able to stop the bomb.

Discoveries

Meanwhile, back at the office, Siobhan fights a paper jam. And after Winn helps her out, she decides to info dump her life history on him, mostly bonding over dishonest fathers, and then they kiss. D’okay.

Later, after realizing just how much she had endangered National City by trying to work without the DEO, Kara ultimately decides to go back to them, because, as Hank says, they’re stronger together, even if they don’t always get along.

Alex then decides that the secret she’d been keeping is killing her, and comes clean about her role in Astra’s death (that is, being the one who actually killed her). At this point I was expecting Kara to go off the rails, and maybe even fly off to the Fortress of Solitude. Instead, she recognizes how much her sister is hurting, and hugs her instead. She even pulls Hank into the embrace.
