What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from rehearsals to bring you the latest releases to home media for September 25, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss the beginnings of a legend, hoop dreams, and Legends. Let’s get to it.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (PG-13)
Metascore: 62
Alden Ehrenreich stars as Han Solo, soon to be the most famous bounty hunter in the galaxy. Alongside his childhood friend Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke), new friend Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), mentor Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson), and notorious smuggler Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), they have to steal a shipment of coaxium for gangster Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany). This film, which also stars Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Erin Kellyman, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. So, this film got a whole lot of flack from a whole lot of people, and it wasn’t nearly as bad as they all claimed it to be. It’s a fun heist movie full of twists and turns, and I highly recommend it.
Uncle Drew (PG-13)
Metascore: 57
When Dax (Lil Rel Howery) loses his street ball team to archrival Mookie (Nick Kroll), he enlists the help of mythical street baller Uncle Drew (Kyrie Irving). Along with a wild cast of characters, Uncle Drew and the gang suit up for one last game. This film, which also stars Shaquille O’Neal, Lisa Leslie, and Reggie Miller, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version. I remember the Uncle Drew commercials and thought they were entertaining in small doses, but I never imagined they’d make an entire film out of it. Ultimately, it works, so why not have fun with it? At the very least, it’s worth a rental.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Third Season
After knocking out the Legion of Doom, the Legends (Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Dominic Purcell, and Nick Zanno) find themselves at the center of a massive time aberration. They also find themselves facing the wrath of the Time Bureau – led by their former Captain, Rip Hunter (Arthur Davrill) and his second-in-command Ava Sharpe (Jess Macallan). But, there’s another evil on the horizon: the demon known as Mallus (John Noble) and his avatars of doom – Nora Darhk (Courteney Ford) and her father Damien (Neal McDonnough). This series, which also stars Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, and Adam Tsekhman, is available in a three disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a four disc DVD version. It’s insane how much better this show got after the abysmal first season, and it’s great they’ve leaned into the silliness of it all. Give this a watch; you won’t be disappointed.
